MoonOS review 2 years, 2 months ago #9

I just read the review here: www.dedoimedo.com/computers/moonos.html

I disagree with a lot of what he said. I wouldn't change anything about how moonOS looks or works. The icons, font size, effects, colors, shelves, menu rollover, are all perfect for me. I don't use things like Samba, so I can't say the distro is perfect, but everything that I do works great!

I prefer moonOS to Ubuntu especially now that Ubuntu is trying so hard to look like Mac OS...

Thanks for making moonOS

Thank you! You know, people in our current world never think same thing. Now I'm trying to make a new look for moonOS as hard as Ubuntu. I hope everyone like it. And I never run out Ubuntu too.

I agree most of the thinks what Dedoimedo says. MoonOS menus are way too complexy and its hard to use.
Thats why it feels kindof clumsy.
It may looks good, but it also should be easy to use and easy to modify.
If You cant fix it, try to even hide those "for professional/advanced user" thinks.

What Dedoimedo says is the reason why i dont use MoonOS now.

Dont try to hurry with MoonOS 4, take Your time.

Thanks

The E17 interface is not an easy interface to get to work properly and there are bugs still alive and doing well in it.

Playing with Ubuntu is also a tough task and bringing the 2 together may be tougher than one thinks.

The review is of course 1 opinion, and yes you can agree with it if you want. Moonos4 I am sure will be much better, but on a lighter note, there is this article to read about the lesser known Ubuntu based distros. Give it a read.

while I agree the environment takes a little getting used to, there's a lot to like about MoonOS.

Firstly it's speed - this distro boots and runs a lot faster than a lot of other ubuntu derivatives running on the same machine.

Applications launch and run a lot faster.

Secondly the application "mix" covers off pretty much all of the basics right out of the box. All the multimedia codecs are right there, no need to go looking for anything.

The only problem I encountered was creating a bootable and persistent USB. The usb creator in Moon just refused to make a persistent stick - even after replacing and/or modifying the necessary files. I had to create my MoonOS stick by running Mint8 and using the default usb-creator in that distro. It worked fine.

Now I have a very fast portable OS.

This is most definitely an OS I'd encourage anyone to carry with them. Fast, complete, a pleasure to use.

Great work!
